OT: NBR Parting common sense observations from Evan Byah
Sorry DP, I must have missed this post when it was on the main board. Of course you're right. It's too early to call Obama the "worst president in history." He has only been in office one year. What I can say is that he's had the absolute worst first year of any president in history. Let's look at it:
First, let's look at National Security. Who in the HELL'S brilliant idea was it to try Khalid Sheik Muhammad in civilian court in NYC? I mean WTF?! You're either going to have to bastardize our Constitutional Rights to find this bastard guilty or you're going to have to let him go free. He wasn't read Miranda and there were no search warrants obtained. How are you going to find him guilty? And for Obama to say that he's sure that he'll be found guilty, well, what kind of fair trial is that? This whole fiasco only gives this bastard a platform on which to air his views. And how do they justify the XMas bomber? Ridiculous.
Remember when Obama said that with respect to Health Care, everything was going to be above board and televised on CSpan? Instead we get the largest most singularly corrupt bill in our history attempted to be rammed home behind closed doors. When you're talking about the Louisiana Purchase, the Nebraska exemption, and the exemption of the Unions you're talking about payouts that are into the BILLIONS of DOLLARS! When Obama gave his speech back in December regarding the bill, he said something to the effect that he realized that it was unpopular but he was elected president for a reason and he was going to make sure it was put through anyway. My fifteen year old kid was watching that speech and turned to me and said, "Dad, isn't that what dictators do?" Oh, from the mouths of babes. This Elitist, better than thou attitude has to stop.
Remember when Obama said he was going to limit earmarks? Hell, what's his Stimulus package but one HUGE earmark bill. Have you seen where this money is going. How stupid it is and how fraudulent the administration's figures are on the impact of jobs saved? Jee-sus!

You have to look at the opportunity cost of the money spent. Jobs haven't been saved. Unemployment is far worse now that it was when the bill was passed. Hell, Obama's worse than my Ex-Wife who seemed to believe that the more she charged on our credit cards, the more my income must necessarily go up.
And I'm not even going to get into the GE/NBC fiasco or the billions that could go to Acorn in the future. Talk about corruption.
Still, Obama could yet turn it around. If he's serious about making health care a true bipartisan effort, well, that would be a good first step. But if this whole meeting was simply a sham and he's going to try to ahead with Reconciliation, well, I don't know what to say. Obama still has a chance to be a truly great president but he has to rein in Reid and Pelosi. He has to take charge and be above board, not behind closed doors. He has to stop with this Elitist mentality and really try to do things on a Bipartisan basis. The corruption and back room deals has to stop. And if he doesn't, he's simply going to make his presidency even more infamous than it was in his first year, and the democrats will really suffer for it at the next election.
That's just my take.
